What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word that translates to "Universal Life Energy." It's a healing technique that was developed by Mikao Usui in 1923. Since then, Reiki has been adapted and modified by many teachers of varying traditions all across the globe. Today there are many forms of Reiki available, each unique in its own way. In essence, Reiki is a healing art used for stress reduction and relaxation. It brings balance to the body's energy, thereby activating and enhancing the natural healing process. 

It's a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. 
Although Reiki is spiritual in nature it is not a religion and it is not based on any religious doctrine. There is no belief system required for Reiki to work and most importantly, Reiki does not infringe on anyone's religious beliefs. Reiki energy empowers the body to heal itself. It propels personal growth, supports health and mood, and helps people achieve their real world goals.


The Principles of Reiki


Mikao Usui believed that in order for anyone to practice Reiki and transfer healing energy to others, they must first take responsibility for their own health and well-being. He developed these principles and taught them to his students, and I meditate over these principles daily in my own Reiki practice.

The Benefits of Reiki

There are many wonderful benefits of Reiki. Though Reiki is a very simple process, it usually produces some quite profound effects. Unlike many modern day remedies, Reiki works directly on the problem by restoring balance on all levels instead of just masking or relieving symptoms.The main purpose of Reiki is not only to heal, but also to promote a positive mind and healthy body so one can experience joy in life. What is a Reiki Session Like?

Everyone seems to experience Reiki a little differently, however feelings of deep relaxation are usually reported by all. Some physical sensations that people may or may not experience can include; warm/ cold sensations, tingling, or pulsating coming from the Reiki practitioners hands - or from within their own body. Some report seeing vivid or brightly colored lights and patterns, while others report hearing various sounds during a Reiki session. Some people may not experience anything at all during a Reiki session, only to have results manifest later. Whether it is physically felt or not, Reiki energy will intuitively flow where it is needed in the body for overall healing, balance and well-being.

Your session can be in person or Reiki can also be sent to you remotely though a distance session. Both ways are perfectly acceptable, and one is not necessarily better than the other, I feel that Reiki will work just as successfully via distance as it does in person because it is a universal energy that works for the highest good of everyone and is unhindered by space or time.
